As we near two decades of presence in Mexico, Google remains deeply committed to the country’s future—investing in the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to unlock progress for all. Through the Google for México initiative, we are using AI to simplify everyday tasks, uplift businesses of all sizes, and fuel sustainable economic growth. In 2023 alone, our platforms—including Search, Ads, YouTube, Play, and Google Cloud—contributed over 278 billion Mexican pesos to the local economy. These numbers reflect more than financial impact; they represent real people gaining access to jobs, tools, and digital opportunities. Our Android ecosystem alone supports over 170,000 jobs, embodying the entrepreneurial energy of Mexico.
But we’re not stopping there. We’re training the next generation with over 90,000 new scholarships for free online education and expanding digital skills through Google Career Certificates. We’re also introducing Gemini Education and a free generative AI course for educators in collaboration with MIT RAISE. Beyond education and economic support, we’re helping tackle urgent social issues—like water scarcity—by funding a $1.5 million AI-powered water management platform developed with the International Water Management Institute. And with new tools like “Results About You,” we’re giving people in Mexico greater control over their online privacy. This isn’t just about innovation—it’s about inclusive progress, ethical tech, and supporting communities from the ground up.

Tipo de Enfoque: SocialDescripción del Enfoque:The Google for México initiative is a strong example of a socially-driven, environmentally conscious, and sustainable innovation effort. Socially, it empowers individuals across the country by democratizing access to digital education and economic opportunity. Through free scholarships, AI-powered tools for educators, and resources like the “Results About You” privacy feature, it actively reduces digital inequality and promotes online safety—key aspects of building an inclusive digital society.
Environmentally and sustainably, the initiative takes tangible steps to address one of Mexico’s most pressing challenges: water scarcity. By funding the development of an AI-powered water management platform in collaboration with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), it promotes smart, data-driven conservation and resource reuse. This aligns with principles of regenerative and circular economies, as it focuses on recovering lost wastewater and redirecting it for agricultural, industrial, and ecological use—maximizing value while minimizing waste. Altogether, the initiative weaves technology into the fabric of social progress, environmental resilience, and long-term sustainability.
